ARPIEM RACEMATIC TDH

ARPIEM RACEMATIC TDH

€639.00Price

Der neue RACEMATIC TDH ist Denny HULME gewidmet, dem unbekanntesten und geheimnisvollsten Formel-1-Weltmeister (seine Geschichte wird unten in den zusätzlichen Informationen erzählt).

He's one of those drivers who doesn't need to be in the spotlight to become a star. Denny Hulme is probably the most discreet and unknown of the F1 world champions. Nicknamed "The Bear," he owes this nickname as much to his physique as to his aversion to long sentences. His rural origins make it difficult for him to speak.

Two years. That's how long it took him to be crowned in 1967, driving the Brabham Repco of his illustrious colleague "Big Jack" Brabham. It was a strange season. Straddling the two 1.5 and 3.0 liter engine regulations, high-performance and reliable single-seaters were rare that year. Hulme took advantage of this and won two races and the title. He then joined his compatriot Bruce MacLaren whose F1 program was just beginning.

Mac Laren also entered prototypes in the lucrative and spectacular American CAN AM series, the aim being to finance F1 with CAN AM revenues. Mac Laren exercised unchallenged domination with legendary cars until 1972 (and the arrival of Porsche and its legendary 917s…). The series was then nicknamed "THE BRUCE (Mac Laren) AND DENNY (Hulme) SHOW". 78 races were organized during the golden age of the series, between 1966 and 1974, the Mac Larens won 48 and Hulme alone 22. "The Bear" was then at the height of his glory.

Still involved in Formula 1, the repeated deaths of his fellow drivers, particularly Bruce McLaren in 1970 and his teammate Peter Revson in 1973, put paid to his motivation. Increasingly affected and difficult to access, he left F1, still discreetly, at the end of the 1974 season, after having secured a total of 8 victories, and returned to his native Antipodes where he devoted his energy to maintaining his property on the edge of a lake.
His passion for driving was still there, and he soon got back behind the wheel in Australia and New Zealand, in Touring Car and Truck races. Thus, while competing in the 1992 Bathurst 1000 km at the wheel of a BMW M3, while driving in the rain, he contacted his pit to say "my vision is blurred." Which, given the weather conditions, surprised no one. His team was more surprised to see him arrive on the starting straight, decelerating steadily along the guardrail, until he came to a complete stop. Then silence.
Denny Hulme died at the wheel, taken by a heart attack at the age of 58. It's hard to imagine a more discreet way to die in a race. Such was Denny Hulme, a passionate driver who hated being noticed and attracting attention...

AFFORDABLE QUALITY

Arpiem has developed a short design / manufacturing / distribution circuit, in order to provide the right quality at the best price.

The choices are always those of  affordable quality: proven and recognized Swiss or Japanese movements, the use of surgical-grade 316L steel for the cases, crystal-quality sapphire glass with anti-reflection treatment, DLC treatment ( Diamond Like Carbon) for black cases rather than the less resistant PVD treatment, the use of stainless steel deployment buckles for the straps, original and rewarding packaging.

WATCHES THAT TELL STORIES AND CARRY EMOTIONS

Arpiem watches are distinctive through their color combinations and graphic details. Each model refers to a place, a man or a significant event in the world of motorsports dear to Vincent Repoux, the creator of the brand.
